Ombudspersons in the life sciences
Research in the life sciences usually takes place in units consisting of numerous individuals. For this reason, it has proven effective in the life sciences to establish collegial counselling services and conflict resolution structures within the work units: the aim here is to supplement the established ombudsperson system, invite discourse on questions and uncertainties in connection with good research practice and prevent conflict situations from arising in the first place.
In clinical research institutions, one successfully established practice has been to involve an additional person with clinical competence and access to clinical structures in the ombudsperson system.
