No preliminary inquiry shall be initiated into a suspected case of scientific misconduct that occurred ten years or more before the day on which it is reported to the DFG Head Office, unless such misconduct is potentially of a very severe nature. 2The limitation period is interrupted if an investigation is conducted at a research institution in relation to the suspicion of scientific misconduct.
