Citations in mathematics

In mathematical texts, it is not common practice to use quotation marks to identify verbatim quotations of one’s own and external text sources. Nonetheless, it should definitely be clearly recognisable that the text has been adopted from an existing source. One example of a way of expressing this would be the following: “As written in [source] …”

Even if the text is not identical (e.g. the reformulation of a theorem that has already been proven elsewhere), reference must be made to the original version.
